Accessibility

SpeakSync is designed to be usable by everyone, including people with disabilities.

Hands-Free Voice Control

The Prompter — SpeakSync's core reading view — is fully voice-controlled. Once voice tracking is started, the app listens to your speech and scrolls the script automatically. No tapping, swiping, or holding is required while presenting.

This makes SpeakSync naturally accessible to users with motor impairments, limited hand mobility, or any condition that makes sustained touch interaction difficult. It is also practical for anyone whose hands are occupied while speaking — holding a microphone, gesturing, or standing at a lectern.

Adjustable Text Size

Both the Editor and the Prompter support pinch-to-zoom, allowing text to be scaled to any comfortable reading size. The Prompter supports font sizes from 24pt up to 96pt, and each script remembers its own preferred size and typeface. Default font sizes can also be set globally in Settings.

High-Contrast Display

The Prompter defaults to white text on a black background for maximum contrast and readability. An Invert Colours option switches to black text on a white background for users who prefer it. Both modes provide strong contrast ratios suitable for low-vision users.

Display Flexibility

The Prompter includes a Mirror Display option (horizontal flip) and a Rotate 180° option. These are designed for beam-splitter teleprompter rigs but are also useful for users who need non-standard screen orientations. All display modes work simultaneously with voice tracking.

Language Support

Voice tracking works in over 30 languages, using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Users can select their preferred speech language in Settings, independent of the device language. This ensures the app is accessible to speakers worldwide.

On-Device Processing

All speech recognition happens entirely on the device. No audio is transmitted to any server. This means voice tracking works without an internet connection and ensures that users' speech remains completely private — an important consideration for users who may be speaking about personal, medical, or sensitive topics.

System Accessibility Features

SpeakSync is built with SwiftUI and UIKit, and respects system-level accessibility settings including Dynamic Type preferences, Bold Text, and Reduce Motion. The app supports all device orientations on both iPhone and iPad, including upside-down orientation on iPhone.

What We're Working On

We are committed to improving accessibility in every release. Areas of ongoing focus include enhanced VoiceOver support in the Library and Editor, and improved labelling of interactive controls for assistive technologies.
